Laurel Glen Vineyard
Cabernet grapes were first planted on the Laurel Glen Vineyard property in 1968 by a women named Carmen Taylor. The vineyard features a combination of high altitude, eastern exposure, rocky soils, and small diurnal temperature swings to produce their distinctive wines. Laurel Glen Vineyard is known for producing long lived, complex and beautifully balanced Cabernet Sauvignon’s.
The tasting room is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and is located at 969 Carquinez Avenue in Glen Ellen, CA. Visitors can choose between the “Current Release Tasting” which features three different current release wines, or the “Library Wine and Chocolate Tasting” which pairs four vintages of the flagship Laurel Glen Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon with a selection of chocolates.
Randall grew up on a vineyard in Sonoma County and has served as a winemaker at several wineries throughout the area since receiving his masters degree in Enology in 1999. These include the Buena Vista Winery, Hartford Family Winery, Carmen Vineyards in Chile, S. Anderson Vineyards, Carmenet Winery and Moon Mountain Vineyard.

We traveled to the Laurel Glen Vineyard to sit down with head winemaker Randall Watkins. He shared his story with us, explaining where his passion for wine making came from. He also talked about his experience as the the head winemaker at Laurel Glen Vineyards and the unique process they go about when making their popular line of Cabernet Sauvignon. This includes harvesting, picking sorting, crushing, fermenting and barreling.
